Hoodoo Moon

Chris Lomas - Biography

Born and raised in a southern suburb of Birmingham, with the exception of a period when he lived in the USA, Chris has stayed close to his Midlands roots and currently resides in Stourbridge.

Chris Lomas first hit the road in ‘77 with 60’s rocker Dave Berry moved onto Jealous Girl ( Zilch Records) in ’81 and The Kind ( Chrysalis Records ) in ‘83.

The following ten years was spent touring & recording with blues piano pounder Steve ‘Big Man’ Clayton, The Mighty Houserockers ( Red Lightning Records ) Jean Vincent ( Rockhouse ), Funk Rock Funsters Rang - A - Tang, Top Country band Circuit Judge and many more. In ‘93 Chris was invited to work in the USA joining Karen Lynn Johns & the New Age Cowboys, he also had some success at this time as a songwriter through a deal with a Memphis based publishing company.

The whole of his career to date has been devoted to live performance, apart from a period in the mid 90's when he returned from the USA. He invested in a local recording studio. Even in this capacity he worked as a guitarist and tour manager with soap stars turned line dance sensation The Woolpackers (RCA). The studio was also to provide the introduction and eventually the invitation to form the bedrock of the Parker’s Alibi rhythm section.

For three years Parker’s Alibi tirelessly toured the UK and Europe and turned into one of the tightest and hardworking Roots & Blues bands on the road. Sadly in 2002 after much soul searching they went their separate ways.

Chris set up Hoodoo Moon Music and began arranging tours for US blues artists such as Tommy McCoy , Paul Byrd & Jimmy Griswold. He formed a crack back up band for these acts, Memphis In The Meantime, now on the road in their own right.

In Nov 2003 he was asked to join Eddy Morton & The Bushburys an invitation he was very happy to except. The band recorded and released the 21st Century Day single in an interactive format featuring a video and toured extensively in the UK and Europe. Frustrated by restrictions the ‘ folk rock ’ tag placed on the band Morton broke up The Bushburys in December 2004 to go solo.

Around this time Chris started working again with The Mighty Houserockers taking along ex. Bushburys drummer Micky Barker who had also just joined Memphis In The Meantime.

Barker’s involvement and enthusiasm led to work starting on the debut Memphis In The Meantime album ‘ Take Me Home ‘ which was released in February 2006 on the UK’s biggest dedicated blues label Blues Matters Records. The recording of Take Me Home marked a creative turning point for the band and hope with it’s release they will be able to concentrate more on developing their own identity and sound.
